To put it simply, DS808 supports Displaylink technology, while MD218E does not support Displaylink technology.
If you want to know more, then please read on.
Displaylink technology was developed by Displaylink Company. Our DS808 uses the Displaylink function developed by Displaylink Company, which enables DS808 to output up to three images to the monitor in extended mode from the Mac.
The monitors connected through DS808 can not only be set to mirror mode, but also can be set to extended mode (which is also the selling point of this product).

Regardless of whether you connect one, two or three monitors, the monitors connected to the DS808 support up to 4K@60hz.

That is to say, for example, if the image on the Macbook is A, then the images output by connecting three monitors can be B, C, and D. As shown in the picture below.

The monitor connected through MD218E only supports setting to mirror mode and does not support setting to expansion mode. But MD218E supports connecting up to four external monitors.

When connected to a monitor via USB-C, it supports up to 4K@30hz.
When connected to one or two monitors via two HDMI supports up to 4K@30hz.
When connecting a monitor via VGA, it supports up to 1080P@60hz.

When three or four monitors are connected at the same time, all monitors only support 1080P resolution.

That is to say, for example, if the image on the Macbook is A, then the images output by connecting three monitors can be B, B, B, B. As shown in the picture below.

In addition, MD218E also has SD card slot and TF card slot. The DS808 does not have an SD card slot or a TF card slot. This makes MD218E more convenient for users with SD card and TF card slots.

DS808's USB 3.2 Gen 2 10Gbps ports are two USB-C ports.
MD218E's USB 3.2 Gen 2 10Gbps ports, one is a USB-A port and the other is a USB-C port.

The MD218E does not have a USB-A 2.0 port. The DS808 has two USB-A 2.0 ports.
