What exactly is USB Type-C?

Summary: Fast, powerful, and small, regardless of front and back, it solves the worldwide problem of "USB is always inaccurate".

What exactly is USB Type-C?

USB Type-C (referred to as USB-C), it has a new interface size and a slightly cool name, it is very easy to make friends who hear this term for the first time think that this is a brand new USB standard, but actually It is not. Type-C is only part of the USB 3.1 standard, not a new standard.

The birth of Type-C was not long ago. At the end of 2013, the renderings of the Type-C connector came out, and in 2014, the USB 3.1 standard was completed. It is a specification for a new type of USB cable and connector, and a complete set of new USB physical specifications.

It is as thin and small as the Lightning interface in the iPhone, and can be expanded into three interfaces of power supply/USB transmission/VGA or HDMI. Through an adapter, it can also be compatible with previous generation interfaces such as USB3.0 and USB2.0.

It should be noted that, similar to the common USB 2.0, the USB 3.1 standard still has interfaces such as Type-A (commonly found in computer hosts) and Type-B (commonly found in Android phones), so Type-C is only the standard for USB 3.1 high-speed data transmission. One kind, not the only one.

USB3.1 interface and Type-C

The USB interface is very confusing. There are 2.0, 3.0, and the current USB3.1 and USB3.2. The USB2.0 interface is black, and the USB3.0 interface is made blue.

As for the color of USB3.1, there is no consensus yet, but ASUS has launched a motherboard equipped with a Type-A USB3.1 interface, and the color of the interface is blue-green. Although the USB Association has not made regulations on the color of USB3.1, it will be inevitable to distinguish it by color.

The Type-C specification is formulated according to the USB3.1 standard, so USB3.1 can be made into Type-C, Type-A and other types, but Type-C is not equal to USB3.1.

With the maturity of USB Type-C technology, various devices in our life will begin to popularize USB Type-C interface in the future.
