Thunderbolt On Mac

Thunderbolt

Thunderbolt is a technology that lets you connect your Mac to other devices, such as external displays, storage devices, and phones, and rapidly transfer both data and power.

There are four versions of Thunderbolt. Depending on the model, your Mac supports Thunderbolt / USB 4, Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C), Thunderbolt 2, or Thunderbolt. See the Apple Support article Identify the ports on your Mac.

All versions of Thunderbolt are backward compatible, although you may need an adapter depending on your computer and the device you’re connecting to it. See the Apple Support article Adapters for the Thunderbolt 4, Thunderbolt 3, or USB-C port on your Mac.
