Problems with wireless USB devices when using USB 3.0 hubs or extension cables

We do not recommend using USB 3.0 ports to connect USB dongles for Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or wireless peripherals. This is because the higher speed of USB 3.0 (also called USB 3.1 Gen 1 and USB 3.2 Gen 1) does not provide any advantages if the device itself is USB 2.0. In fact, Plugable's USB 2.0 Bluetooth and Wi-Fi adapters perform worse on USB 3.0 than they do on USB 2.0.

Furthermore, there is a critical issue with the design of USB 3.0 specifications that causes many USB 3.0 ports to leak broad-spectrum radio interference in the 2.4GHz to 2.5GHz range. This is the same radio band used by Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, and while the interference can be reduced through heavy shielding, it cannot be entirely avoided due to the core design of USB 3.0. In contrast, USB 2.0 ports do not have this issue.

However, it's worth noting that a USB 2.0 port located near an in-use USB 3.0 port may still be affected by radio noise leaked by the USB 3.0 port.
